Mindfulness-based Coaching and Therapy

Amsterdam-based with a global clientele

I know what it’s like to feel stuck.

Stuck in a relationship that’s no longer meeting your needs.

Stuck in a job that isn’t fulfilling.

Stuck in old patterns of self-criticism and self-doubt.

I also know that change is possible. And it’s within your grasp.

Getting unstuck is about facing the fears that hold us back.

It’s about learning to stay present with all of our feelings and to embrace who we are with compassion and acceptance.

And it’s about clarifying the changes we want to make and enacting a plan to get from where we are to where we want to be.

Are you ready for the journey?

What is mindfulness-based coaching and therapy?

Mindfulness is a powerful starting point for meaningful change. Mindfulness is not a substitute for action, but an effective way of getting clear about what we feel and the changes we want to create.

Mindfulness is about bringing our attention, in a gentle and accepting way, to whatever we are experiencing in the here and now.

In the context of coaching and therapy, it means noticing what we are feeling, or perhaps trying not to feel, and creating space for whatever is asking for our attention.

Learning to listen to our experience also means noticing our thoughts without getting pulled into them, and learning to step back from the repetitive thoughts that give rise to anxiety, self-doubt, and depression.

For achieving real and lasting change, I draw on various therapy models:  Attachment Theory, Client-centered Therapy, Internal Family Systems or “Parts” Therapy, Coherence Therapy, and Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP), tailoring the work plan to the needs and interests of each individual client.

Please note that all sessions are conducted online.

Are you ready to invest in yourself, and create a life you love waking up to?

We invest in all sorts of things: cars, homes, education, technology, and travel. Getting unstuck – creating real and lasting change – requires an investment of time, energy, and money.

The initial 20-30 minute consultation is free. You can ask any questions you might have about how I work and how we might work together. And I can get a clear sense of whether I can be helpful regarding your particular goals.

If we decide to work together, each session will be 50 minutes. All of my work is done online on Zoom. The frequency and total number of sessions depend on your particular goals and the work required for you to achieve them.

I wish I could wave a magic wand and tell you that big changes will happen overnight. But meaningful changes just don’t happen that way.

FAQs

Do you work exclusively online or also in-person?

All sessions are held online.

Is our work confidential

Our work together is completely confidential, with only two possible exceptions: if I have reason to believe that a client has a concrete plan to harm himself or herself, or to cause harm to someone else, I am legally required to share the minimum information needed to keep that client (or intended target of harm) safe. Other than these exceptions, everything we discuss is absolutely confidential and cannot be shared with anyone else unless you specifically request that I do so.

What is the difference between coaching and therapy?
Coaching focuses on the here and now, and on taking concrete steps towards creating the life you want to be living. Common goals include navigating difficult life transitions and getting unstuck from situations that are not working for us any longer.

Therapy often shares the same focus and aims as coaching. However, in therapy, we also examine the ways in which difficult experiences from the past continue to influence who are today and the challenges we are facing. This can mean exploring the ongoing impact of early experiences of loss, difficult family relationships, and various types of traumatic events.

In fact, our life journey up to the present moment always influences how we see ourselves, our relationships with others, and our ability to create the kind of life we want to live. So whether we frame our work together as coaching or therapy is a bit arbitrary. It depends mostly on the extent to which our work includes healing from painful life experiences that continue to hold you back from living the life you desire.

How often will we meet? And how many sessions will our work together require?

The frequency of our sessions depends on the nature of your particular goals and the work required to achieve them. This is something we can discuss during the free consultation.

Will you give me tasks to work on between sessions?
I’m a big believer in the power of activities (“homework” if you like) that my clients can do between sessions to move them towards their goals. At the end of each session, we’ll agree on specific activities tailored to your particular needs and goals. This could be practicing techniques for learning to sit with difficult feelings and cultivate greater self-compassion; implementing proven methods of lowering stress and anxiety; doing visualizations and other activities to help you clarify your goals and values, or your personal vision of the life you’d like to be living; or trying out “small experiments” to help you explore new possibilities in your professional or personal life.
Will our work be covered by insurance?

I am not affiliated with any insurance companies or with the Dutch Healthcare System (the BIG). You may wish to check with your employer or insurance company whether they will reimburse you for our work together.

What is your cancellation policy?

I understand that you may need to cancel or reschedule a session due to illness or other unforeseen events. As long as you let me know with at least 24 hours of advance notice, there is no fee for cancelled or rescheduled sessions. With less than 24 hours notice, cancellations or no-shows are billed at the regular session rate.

What forms of payment do you accept?
I accept payment by bank transfer, PayPal, and in the US, Zelle. Details will be provided once we begin our work together.
